Learn to be creative and live a satisfying, successful life…
Hello Friends,
Welcome to my first blog post on this site. It is an introduction, to me, and to what I do.. My name is Lisa and I have lived in Sint Maarten for 3 years. I was born and raised in the United States, moving frequently. Traveling and living in different countries has broadened my perspective on what it means to live a satisfying and successful life. I appreciate learning new cultures and different ways of living, To me, the ultimate success story doesn’t come from how much money you have accumulated and what type of home you live in. Being successful is about living a life you feel good about. Each person is unique and the life that suits them perfectly is unique. As humans, it’s part of our nature to be inspired from others, and being able to use the inspiration and create something on your own can be very satisfying and rewarding.
As a painter, I learned techniques while studying theatre at UMD. Aside from spending hours in the scene and prop shop and taking a figure drawing class, I was also learning about performance. I took acting and vocal classes, participating in shows, and learning specialized techniques through movement and voice work. College gave me the opportunity to explore my interests, which went beyond the scope of art as I satisfied the nerdy scientist within by earning a minor in Astronomy. I hadn’t taken the deep dive into the Esoteric Art of Astrology yet as I didn’t believe in matters beyond what was physical. Learning about the Cosmos and mysteries of the Universe helped me put things in perspective. We are all gathered here on this tiny blue planet, located on a little spiral arm of a huge galaxy, floating among billions of other galaxies. In the same way it makes me feel insignificant, it also reminds me that a normal, long living human doesn’t really have that much time on the planet as compared to time as a whole. Our lives could be lived out and never had much impact, or, our lives could have a big impact.
After college, I wanted to live a normal life. I had accepted that my desire to be a creative type wasn’t as important to have a stable life that supported my well being. Structure and routine is important for me to keep balanced. At that time, I craved the 9 to 5 and company benefits. I was granted the opportunity to join Corporate America and I began my career in banking operations for one of the biggest names in banking. I liked the stability, and the people I worked with, for the most part. Yet my creative mind and passion to put all of my energy into my job led me to always pursuing creative passions in the evenings or on the weekends. This worked for several years, but eventually, burn out always occurs. Life becomes unbalanced. Between finding time for creativity, earning a living, because we all need to eat, and making time for family and friends, it can be difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Often having to sacrifice things like quality time with loved ones over a home cooked meal in order to keep up with the demands of a busy life can be a challenge. As life continues, the things we put effort into remain and the rest falls away.
I continued to seek out other opportunities of employment and put creative efforts into different projects. Eventually my life began to shift. I got to a point where I was able to say good bye to the banking world and worked full time on other things I loved. Primarily, I worked as an Art Instructor for a sip and paint company for about 2 years before moving to the Island. I also became interested in a more spiritual side of myself and I discovered more through learning esoteric arts, primarily astrology, which I define as a tool used to identify the specific energetic imprint of an individual. Studying my natal chart helped me to identify the reason why I was struggling so much in my creative life, as well as other areas, personal and private.
Today, I live here along with my 2 cats, Oscar and Stormie, and my Pit Bull, Honey. I have a mobile art business where I bring art supplies and provide instruction to individuals or groups to create their own art. I encourage theme parties and offer my esoteric art services to those who are interested. As I have worked to promote the business and book parties, I received more inquiries about my own artwork and working one-on-one with individuals, based on their needs. Learning to overcome my own limitations and beliefs about what is possible has forced me to grow as an entrepreneur and as an artist.
I am at a place where I feel happy and content with my life because I know myself and accept myself, as well as the changing tides as they come in and out of my life. I accept that I can make a little more progress every day and that is enough. Being an artist will be a lifelong pursuit, and what I produce is bound to change as my interests fluctuate. The greatest success would be that I am always able to support myself in any way that I need to be able to create as I desire. My hope is that I can help to inspire others to live their life to their greatest potential.
